About Me
When I first made this blog, I was a 17 year old senior at West Albany High School in Albany, Ore, applying to be the 2020 Oregon Student Journalist of the Year. I was an active staff member of the WAHS Whirlwind newsmagazine and website from 2017, when it was reestablished at the school, to March 2020 when school was cancelled. Throughout that time, I held multiple leadership positions, including Opinion Editor, Copy Editor, and lastly Managing Editor.
Now, I’m 18, a first-year journalism major at Linn-Benton Community College, and I’m finally taking journalism classes again. Somehow AP Style hasn’t left my brain in the past six months, so that’s a good sign.
The Wall
The wall seen above is something I’m still weirdly very proud of. It started when my debate on President John F. Kennedy in American Government class ended and I was left with more pictures of the man than I knew what to do with. At the time, the computer behind me in the picture was where I sat for production nights, and the wall behind it seemed empty. So, add the J.F.K. collage, a glow in the dark skeleton from the Dollar Tree, a print of abstract Squidward from Spongebob, and 12 Little Caesers magnets, and you have “The Wall.” No doubt this is what secured me the runner-up spot.
