Reflection
I don’t think anything has given me the warm, glowing feeling in my chest that leading the Whirlwind staff gives me in every instance. Being one of the four heads, a managing editor, is a gratifying and hard to explain experience. Producing these systems to better the efficiency of the publication and seeing them pay off, seeing the staff use them. It’s worth everything. Anytime any one comes to me with a question, I drop everything I’m doing to help them. Anytime someone asks me to edit their story or page, anytime someone runs out of time to finish their page and needs help, anytime someone needs help with ideas, anytime I can do anything to be of assistance. I always know I can get my work done on my own time, so I put theirs first.
My position allows me to better the staff, so I constantly think of ways to do so. When a magazine first comes out, the first thing I do is go through, reread every story, look at every page, and mark it all up, take notes on recurring issues. I am repeatedly over prepared for our critiques. I’m not sure what I’m gonna introduce next, but I can’t wait to think of it.
